How to feel beautiful in your changing body
Your body is doing the most extraordinary thing it will ever do. Here's how to dress it, photograph it, and speak to it with the reverence it deserves.

There is a particular kind of grief that arrives somewhere around week 22 — the moment you realize your jeans don't button, your favorite dress no longer zips, and the mirror is showing you a body you don't recognize. It's not vanity. It's identity. And no one talks about it honestly enough.
Here is what we wish someone had told us, one trimester at a time.
Buy clothes that fit you this week
Not the body you used to have. Not the body you're hoping to return to. The body you have right now, this Wednesday. Comfort is not a compromise — it's a love language to yourself. Two pairs of soft maternity leggings, three good t-shirts, one knit dress, one cardigan, one pair of supportive shoes. That's a full second-trimester wardrobe.
Take the bump photos
Take them in bad light. In your kitchen. In your bathrobe on a Tuesday. Take them when you feel ugly especially. You will weep with gratitude in five years. Your daughter will ask to see them. Future you is begging present you to press the shutter.
Speak to your body like you'll speak to your daughter
Imagine your future daughter at 14, looking in the mirror, hearing the inner voice you're modeling for her right now. Speak to your body the way you'd want her to speak to hers. With awe. With reverence. With the same softness you'd offer a friend.
Small rituals that help
A daily belly oil. A mirror you've decorated with a string of warm-light bulbs. One outfit hanging on the door that always makes you feel beautiful. A playlist of songs you love. Saying out loud, every morning, 'My body is doing the most extraordinary work of its life.' These things sound small. They are not small.
